2011 in Performances - July

Ok this next performance is neither local or small, but I just wanted to tell you about it anyway. I love music and I love live music but the concert I went to this week was on a whole new scale of BIG. I went, for the first time ever to Wembley Stadium to see Take That. Well, I went really to see Robbie Williams but having the other Take That boys thrown in was an added bonus.

It was of course an amazing show with so much to look at and experience. Having the top of the stadium open on a warm July night was just perfect. As you can see we were high up but that was good because we could see the big picture at all times. The thing that struck me most though was the number of people there. A graphic came up at the beginning claiming that 89,291 people were in the stadium and when we left later and headed towards the tube station it felt like it! I don't think I have ever been in one place with so many people before it blew my mind. All of us singing along and joining in. It was a great feeling.

  1. Have been to three ("pop") concerts in my life, Paul Simon at the O2 and twice to see 'The Boss' Bruce Springstein. None were on the scale you experienced at Wembley but what did remain in my mind was the level of sound. Over 100dcbls of sound energy almost pushing you back in your seat.It was quite something and left one's ears ringing well into the next day. It left 'Dancing in the Dark and 'Badlands' in an entirely new perspective. But, for sheer volume of noise, the loudest was at the Houston Rodeo Arena. Sitting high up on what seemed like an incline of 45 degrees the sound intensity was so great that it was difficult to distinguish what the commentator was saying. Maybe it's just advancing years!!
