Tremendous Trees

I feel that I have really sucked the goodness out of autumn this year,
It started with a trip to the Botanical Gardens with my family,
Which was followed by a girly day out at Westonbirt Arboretum
Then Concluded with a romantic wander around Stourhead with my beloved.
In between we have been crunching through leaves locally and
Wowing at the gorgeous colours as we drive by
And of course watching our garden change
I have loved it and have so many pictures of so many trees
I don't know what to do with them all.

I think I get my love of trees from my maternal grandfather
He was always happy if he could see a tree
I also like people who remind me of trees;
Strong, with firm roots, solid, and steadfast
I know a few people like that!

I recently came across this tree in a park
I thought - that's a nice tree!
Then I saw the plaque beneath it
This tree had been standing in this spot for 76 years
At that moment I was just struck by
How many generations had passed
Under the boughs of this tree
Maybe swung on them
It's strength was incredible
As it got older it just seemed to get
More magnificent
More mighty
More trustworthy
Watching quietly from it's position in the park

 It reminded me of people
Who have stood strong in the corner of my life
Watching, nodding, smiling, encouraging
Always been there when I needed them
Strong enough when I fell upon them in despair
Overjoyed to rejoice with me in happy times
Just there, always there
They're my trees
And I am so grateful for them.

  1. Isn't it wonderful to have the time to observe with your brain as well as your eyes? So much more becomes apparent using the 'central control' Trees are superb and each species has its own symmetry which can only develop and be observed if grown in adequate space. This requires a rephrasing of the old adage viz. 'you cant see the trees for the wood'! Very readable pictorial "elegy" blogger and good to know that someone else gets pleasures from these wonderful, free natural phenomena.
